There’s a link on Boing Boing to some awesome fashion from the Harajuku district in Tokyo. These people officially gather every weekend, but it’s not uncommon to see toned down versions on the streets pretty much every day. From the few times I’ve seen these people, I’ve gathered that they really enjoy cameras. I guess if I spent as much time and money on a costume as they do I’d probably want to show off too.
Here’s a link to the gallery.

Well first – most of them are not in “costume” – that is the fashion that they wear. The only ones in costume are the ones cosplaying a band member or anime character.
Harajuku started out as a place to friends to meet and get away from Japan’s opressive society and they could identify each other through their fashion interests.
Most of the “harajuku” kids that I’ve talked to are just annoyed with all the tourists and cameras and wish everyone would leave them alone.

I guess I saw the people who enjoyed the cameras then because the people I saw were posing. They were far from shy.
