Salvador: In (a few) Pictures!

Apr 05 2008

It’s really difficult to shake this feeling of dread every time I take my camera out. I’m not getting as many pictures as I want or the kind I’d like to take. They all seem so hurried. With that said, here are some pictures of Salvador. This is only a small taste of what Salvador has. I’ll try to take more pictures later.

I called one of the people I met last night and he was super friendly. Pedro offered to take me around to some famous spots of Salvador. I was fairly certain that he wasn’t going to drug me and leave me in the jungle to fend for my life from rich old men who wish to hunt me for sport so I went with him. It would make a pretty kickass movie though. I could play the ruggedly handsome lead character.

The only pictures I took were the times we stopped. Unfortunately, that was only twice. The first time was at a very large church. The decorations were very gaudy, but tactful. I wouldn’t want my house decorated that way, but it worked well for God’s house. Our second stop was at a fort built by some French people a long time ago. It was an interesting place not because of the architecture or beach, but the people. My friend told me that it’s one of the few places people just go to relax. It’s really true. I rarely see people stopped to read a book or sit in the grass in public. This place was full of people doing just that.

Afterwards we checked out some hostels. I found one with air conditioning, only 4 beds in the room, and a clean bathroom. I’m contemplating going there tomorrow, but this pousada is so nice and I’d rather sit around on my butt this Sunday.
