A Night Out
I actually met up with someone from couchsurfing.com tonight. It was a lot of fun. She’s the kind of person who knows everyone so there were no shortages of people to talk to. I even got a few phone numbers.
We started off with a few beers at this central gathering place. It’s a small block with nothing but tables in a big open area. Waiters come by to bring beer and other people occasionally stop by to sell you peanuts or fried cheese. It’s quite a different atmosphere than in the US. From there, we went to an apartment. One of the women at the apartment was not only a US citizen, but from Seattle as well. She lived in the U-District. It’s very close to my place in Capitol Hill. We talked about Seattle for a while, but her Brasilian boyfriend started to get all mopey.
After the apartment, a few of us went to a Forró bar. I can’t claim to dance it very well, but at least I have rhythm. They were impressed by that much. From there, I came back to my pousada. It’s after 3:30am now and I’m still a little wired due to the guarana in one of the drinks I had. I knew what would happen when I drank it but I did it anyway. Now it’s time to watch some TV and try to relax a little.
One of the guys I met tonight says he has time tomorrow to show me around a bit. Hopefully he’s serious. For now, though, I’m happy I got to meet some new people.
I don’t have pictures because I packed really light for tonight. I don’t know Salvador so I left pretty much everything of importance in my room.
